In the "Origins" installation at 806 Charnelton in Eugene, OR, I’m exploring the vestiges of nature and mark-making to illustrate how biology and geology relate to humanity’s fragility and our interdependence to the earth.

Vestiges of Interdependence

“Origins” explores themes inspired by the raw elements of the Earth - rock, water and air, with a nod towards the roots that connect and sustain us, intertwining the natural world with human existence. 

In these installation pieces I’m using traditional printmaking and sculptural techniques in new ways to explore how life begins in the depths of rock and ocean, arrives on land, and works through the underground to sustain us.

The “Whispering Roots” installation contains dozens of individual pieces of art made of paper, fabric and wire and string that celebrate the resilient roots, mycelium networks, and the delicate dance of the underground. It serves as a visual exploration of the profound connections between humans, nature, climate change, and our evolving relationship with the environment. 

The “Emerging” installation consists of a dozen wire sculptures suspended from the ceiling and explores the beginnings of cellular life, as chemical energy creates and transforms cellular organisms. 

The “Biology Rising'' installation is inspired by Volvox, freshwater algae that form daughter colonies who work together to survive. It’s made of hundreds of circles created with monotypes printed on vintage sewing patterns using gel pads, then dipped in beeswax and hung in a large column. It is lit from below, and glows at night.

The “Biology Rising'' column installation is inspired by Volvox, freshwater algae that form daughter colonies who work together to survive. It’s made of hundreds of circles created with monotypes printed on vintage tissue paper sewing patterns using gel pads. The prints are then attached to hand twisted wire circles, dipped in beeswax and hung in a large column. It is lit from below, and glows at night.

This large installation of nearly 900 Circles was at the Downtown Eugene Public Library from May 1 - July October, 2022. Individual circle sales are on hold for the moment, as I am using all of them for a public installation. If you’re interested in a custom order of 20 more (starting at $600) please contact me. Each circle is made from a hand-pulled monotype on vintage sewing pattern tissue, made on a gel pad. The paper is glued to a hand-twisted circle and then dipped in hot beeswax. The installation took 3 months of full time (40 hours a week) to complete. All these circles were made with the same color of paint, the photos reflect how the color can change as the light changes throughout the day, but rest assured, the circles all “go” together! I will work hard to make a great composition of circles for you, but I won’t be able to let you point and pick what you want from these circles. Custom orders welcome, however for 50 or more circles. Message me your preference for hanging options in the notes. Photos below show how I can ship “panels” of circles, ready to hang, I will give a price break if you order 100+ circles. Hung with twine on a branch found at the North Umpqua River, one of America’s last wild rivers, running from the mountains to the ocean, uninterrupted. This is mounted on a window with a simple suction cup.

We're all grown from the same earth, blown together on a shared branch by the rough winds of chance and circumstance. Various random and famous people are featured on these circles, from Megan Rapinoe, American soccer player and LBGTQ activist to moms and babies on a beach in Australia. This mixed media installation features monotype image transfers on tracing paper glued to handmade wire circles and dipped in beeswax. They hang from a branch found on the shores of the North Umpqua river in Oregon, one of America’s last wild rivers.

12”x 12” Fine Art Print on high quality paper. These prints were created from the original monotypes on tissue paper which are part of the “Biology Rising” window installations. I digitally altered the originals with different colored filters to represent the different hues of humanity.

My version of a primordial journey: the birth of a cell through its natural life cycle. Created with mixed media monoprints on tissue paper which are then collaged onto a large, 24” x 24” square canvas, then embellished with canvas circles that were cut on my Glowforge laser cutter. I painted the circles with acrylic paint on my gel pad to add additional texture and depth. Framed in a float frame.
