Julie Anderson Bailey’s Artist’s Bio:
Julie’s work explores humanity’s interdependence on nature and collaboration with each other. Her “Biology Rising” installation won the Juror’s Choice award at Eugene 2022 Mayor’s Art Show and was featured in Fiber Arts Now magazine’s “Paper Made” show in 2023, and on OPB Southern Oregon’s “The Work of Art” show.
Julie has a BFA in performing arts, and a BA in English. Her journey as a visual artist started in the early 90’s with hand painted furniture and suitcases, clay and printmaking (with herfirst Eugene artwalk in 2004!) and then took off in 2018 after exiting from her multifaceted career at several start ups and HP Inc. in product development and marketing, leading teams through innovation and corporate culture change.
Julie has shown her work in group and solo shows locally and nationally and she’s especially interested in public art to tell stories about the natural world and our place in it.
Her artwork has come full circle, with all her life experiences embedded in layers of color, texture and form. She posts new work and works in progress on her @juliejulieart Instagram and Facebook Pages and her website is www.juliejulie.co
Artist Statement:
I use materials in unexpected ways to highlight their organic components and show how they are related to the primordial journey of us, our cells and our environment. My work is filled with “Biology Rising” themes emerging in circles from conception to death and beyond.
I make mixed media monotypes and image transfers on paper, canvas and objects. I create stencils and circles cut from canvas on my laser cutter to create vibrant layers of color and texture to tell stories about the natural world and our place in it.
My art explores the tension and dance between the organic nature of life at the cellular level and what humans have created from it in recent history.
Artist’s Bio:
Julie makes art in her studio on the edge of the North Umpqua river in Roseburg, Oregon. She has been balancing a career in art, tech, and writing for the past 25 years.
Julie has a BFA and a BA in English. As a full-time artist working in painting, mixed media, installations and sculpture, Julie has shown her work in galleries and boutiques across the country since the early 1990’s, and even sold a vintage folk-art inspired Samsonite covered in thousands of dots of puff paint to Julia Roberts in Los Angeles! More recently, she has begun to show installation work in public art venues, including her popular “Biology Rising” piece, which won the Juror’s Choice award at the Mayor’s Art Show in Eugene, OR for her installation of 900 hand-pulled prints on tissue paper, fashioned into cirlces, and displayed in the Public Library. It was also featured in Fiber Arts Now Magazine’s “Paper Made” show in 2023. It was then transformed into an immersive public art experience for Eugene’s outdoor Riverfront Park in September, 2024, and also re-hung into a 12 foot column of cirlces lit from within as part of her “Origins” windowfront installation in downtown Eugene.
